Machado has been a calming presence for the Padres throughout a difficult season.

When Machado suffered a devastating ankle injury in late June, the organization feared he would be gone for months.

Machado played injured, and his stats suffered as a result — his. July's OPS of 694 was certainly his lowest of the season.

But, with Fernando Tatis Jr. on the injured list and no trade deadline reinforcements on the horizon, the Padres needed all of Machado's services.
